Saskatchewan Drag Racing Association fundraiser

posted by Hope Cancer Help Centre    |   October 11, 2018 16:40

On July 14, 2018 the Saskatchewan Drag Racing Association held its annual fundraiser at Saskatchewan International Raceway.  For the second year now Hope Cancer Help Centre was the happy recipient of the fundraiser.  The event, which included a delicious steak dinner, was a great success with over $8,300 raised for our cause.  We laughed, we cried, we ate.  Music was provided by Hot Rod Hullabaloo, a rockabilly trio.  They were fantastic, and we highly recommend them.  Crystal Scribner was amazing at putting together the event, which is an understatement, given she did it while battling the cancer demon and continues to do so.  How do you thank someone enough who puts the struggles of others ahead of her own?  We don’t know but will never stop thanking her.  Others who were integral to the organizing and success of the event, and must be commended, were Doug Morin and Kristi Weeks.  We thank them from the bottom of our hearts.

Raising Hope Benefit Concert

posted by Hope Cancer Help Centre    |   September 5, 2018 13:41

On July 28, 2018, Hope Cancer Help Centre held its 4th Raising Hope Benefit Concert.  Big Dave McLean headlined, his 2nd annual contribution.  Taking the stage with Big Dave were B.C. Read (guitar/vocals), Donna Lucien (harmonica) and Hope board member Jack Walton (guitar\vocals).  The music was top notch and enthusiastically embraced by the audience, making for a successful night all around.  We greatly appreciate the volunteers who helped throughout the event and kept it running smoothly.  And a big thank you to the Kinsmen Club of Saskatoon for their continued support.

For those who missed it, here’s the good news.  Big Dave McLean has graciously agreed to perform for the next benefit, so stay tuned.

Steak Night Fundraiser

The Markewich family has once again gone above and beyond in support of Hope Cancer Help Centre by putting together a steak night fundraiser on Sunday, October 2, 2016.  Their dedicated work raised almost $8,000, including $3,615 donated by Scotiabank (8th Street and Clarence).  We sincerely wish to thank Debbie Markewich and her family and friends for putting on such a fun and successful night.  We also wish to thank The Sutherland Bar for providing great food and service, and to thank all the business (Idylwyld Minute Muffler & Brake, Willow Insurance, Lakeview Drycleaners) and individuals (too numerous to name) for their donations and silent auction contributions.

P.S. The Pebble Bay Beetle Run, which raised $645 including Dean and Tabitha Matlock’s re-gifting their prize money to Hope, was one of the cleverest ideas we’ve heard.

Hair Fashions Salon Fundraiser

During the month of October, 2016, Fawn Krewishen of Hair Fashions Salon donated her time and 100% of all proceeds from haircutting and facial waxing services to Hope Cancer Help Centre.  With additional donations through the salon, Fawn raised over $1,300; remarkable for a one person show.  We will always be grateful for what Fawn has done.

Raising Hope Benefit Concert

On Friday, October 7, 2016 a small but enthusiastic crowd came out for a night of amazing music at the Cosmo Seniors Centre on 11th Street.  The talented lineup of performers comprised Jay Semko, Brian McAreavey, Paddy Tutty and Jack Walton, who also hosted the event. Thank you to everyone who came out, on a Thanksgiving long weekend no less, and showed their enthusiasm.  We also thank the Kinsmen Club of Saskatoon who provided the hall.
